All Managed Clinical Networks must have a Quality Assurance Framework (QAF) to be able to fulfil the core principles of HDL (2007) 21. The QAF must be developed in accordance with the arrangements set out by NHS Quality Improvement Scotland.

COBIS will seek accreditation from NHS Quality Improvement Scotland within three years of setting up the network. The QAF will consist of a set of standards and a framework for audit, using the template for national accreditation.

Five draft Standards for COBIS Quality Assurance Framework have been agreed:

Standard 2 Length of stay

Standard 3 Burn Care Services

Standard 4 Infection Control

Standard 5 Evidence based practice
