Working Groups

We have three COBIS working groups:

Communication and Engagement Group

This group meets approximately four times a year with the aim of implementing the COBIS Communication Strategy.  The group recognises the need to promote networking across the burns community, sharing best practice and ensuring Clinical Guidelines are up-to-date and readily available.

Education Group

This group works with stakeholders to implement COBIS’s Education Strategy, including:

  • Scottish Ambulance Service
  • Scottish Fire and Rescue Service
  • Emergency Medicine teams
  • Specialist and general nurses
  • Plastic surgeons involved in burn care
  • Anaesthetists and intensive care teams
  • Health and care professionals working with patients, including psychologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dietitians and social work teams
  • Primary Care including GPs and District Nursing teams
  • Patients and families
  • Schools/Further education

There are four key themes:

  • Specialist workforce – providing opportunities for evidence-based specialist burns training and resources for improved health and care
  • Improved quality – providing opportunities for improving quality to enhance patient safety and patient and families experiences of burns services
  • Supporting the service model for Scotland – supporting burns hub and facility services
  • Enhanced educational infrastructure – implementing strategic approach to delivering educational opportunities

Data Group

The Clinical Audit System (CAS) is a computerised database for people living in Scotland who have a burn injury.  Information about patients is entered onto the system, with the aim of improving treatment and services.  The Information Management Service (IMS), NHS National Services Division is leading on data management for COBIS, liaising directly with clinical users of CAS to improve data completion, providing training where required and producing regular local data reports.
